The New Cabin

Uncle Dave requested some photos of our cabin that we moved onto our property from Wisconsin last September, so here they are! (I just couldn't turn you down, Uncle Dave, and I promise to add some pics of the temporary joists like you wanted! ha ha)

On Thursday morning--EARLY Thursday morning (around 3 or 4, I think), Dad and the little kids left to meet the caravan and "escort" them home. Our whole family woke up to watch the cabin roll down the driveway. (NOT a good idea. Waking up in the middle of the night out of my delightfully peaceful slumber to try to make out a cabin with a flashlight was not worth it.) The truckers and mover-dudes scoped out the area, and WISELY decided to wait until later in the morning to unload the cabin! So everyone had a little snooze until 6 or 7 (I don't really know when it was--I was still asleep! You couldn't make me get up that early!) They then prepared the foundation for the cabin, and later on they moved it over there. It was really weird to see a moving house, basically!

They backed the semi onto the foundation, then started piling up 6x6s like jengas.

They jacked it up a few inches at a time, then they'd let it fall on the "jengas."

It was a REALLY long process--they had to jack it up, let it down, jack it up, etc. in four places.

Hard at work :) Even the little kids helped out with the 6x6s.

Once it was jacked up far enough, the semi could pull out. (Rather, the DRIVER could pull the semi out!) :)

Next, the job was to do the reverse--jack it up, pull two 6x6s out, let it down. Et cetera.

The finished product, resting on concrete blocks. I can't wait until spring, when I can
decorate it with some flower beds!

The interior, taken from the loft...and a brush. (I spy!) I just love the skylights...they're so
beautiful and they let in so much extra light!

There it is. We'll probably use it for a schoolroom in the spring, otherwise as soon as we get heat in there! :) These pictures are all from September, and now we we're in the process of decorating the inside. It's kind of a long process--you accumulate a few things here, a few things there...you know how it goes. :)

So there you have it, Uncle Dave (and anyone else who was interested enough!). Hope you enjoyed your sneak peek at a work day at the Medford's. (That kinda made it sound like we move cabins every day. We don't.)
